糸島の可也山のふもと、引津湾に面したところに、敷地面積150坪程の｢万葉の里植物園｣はあります。
ここには、万葉集に歌われた草花が植えてあります。
万葉集には4516首の歌が登場しますが、その中で草花が出てくるのが200ほどで、その中で糸島にある万葉集の草花は50首ほどだそうです。
引津湾には、大宰府の観世音寺創建の際、中国から仏像を運び、一時保管たしたという寺もあります。
万葉集の中に登場する花で一番多いのが萩、そして二番目が梅だそうで、どこか、大宰府との深いつながりも感じます。
