Ipek Celik Rappas is Associate Professor in Media and Visual Arts at Koç University, Istanbul. Her research explores media and marginalized communities in Europe, and the relationship between media labor, production, and space. She is the author of In Permanent Crisis.
We spoke to Ipek about why and how television and movie producers frequently seek off-the-beaten-path locations for filming, some behind-the-scenes stories from Game of Thrones and other productions, and what steps can be taken to create a more sustainable screen economy.
