
Today's Guest: Director of Student-Athlete Success & Engagement- Katie Scanlon
From synchronized swimming champion to academic leader, today’s guest has built a career dedicated to student-athlete success. A native of Oswego, New York, she earned her bachelor’s degree at Canisius University, where shecaptained the Golden Griffins synchronized swimming team to four ECAC titles.
After completing a master’s in higher education administration at Dayton, she spent two years at Dayton and three years at New Mexico, honing her expertise in academic support for athletes.
In December 2011, she joined Syracuse University as an academic coordinator. By 2017, she was leading student-athlete development, working with nearly every varsity program—including the men’s basketball team. Her leadership and impact earned her recognition on Central New York’s “40 Under Forty” list in 2013. She’s also a proud member of Women Leaders in College Sports, a swimming and diving official, and a volunteer with Special Olympics.
Most recently, after earning her Ph.D. in higher education from Syracuse, she stepped into a new role in June 2025—her first year as Director of Student-Athlete Success and Engagement, overseeing the holistic development of more than 550 student-athletes and managing key campus partnerships.
