In August, “Bass In The Area” with Blake.08 followed on Anjunadeep, and its Portuguese lines became the first full Portuguese song ever released on the label. “We always had this dream of having our native language on Anjuna’s catalogue,” recalls Clara. “We are really happy how this came out to be,” points out Gui. The new album goes further. Melodies feel deeper. Rhythms carry more detail. MPB colors show up everywhere. A jazz-tinted piano prelude opens “Before the Sun”. Afro-Brazilian breaks rumble through Permeia. An overdriven guitar tears into “Wasted.” Their taste now reaches into psychedelic rock and into the haze of shoegaze. Even their version of Slowdive’s “Sugar for the Pill” sits inside that arc rather than outside it. Fellow Brazilian and Grammy Voting Member Julia Borelli is working closely on it and helping the sound hit harder than ever. “This represents us more than ever,” Clara estimates. A close partnership with manager Matt Jagger has also shaped this chapter. His hands-on approach helped sharpen the album’s direction while keeping heart at the center of the process. “He’s creatively part of this. For sure,” Gui says. “He is warm and open-hearted,” Clara adds. “Which helped us to trust the process and follow through.” The project feels personal and cinematic, Brazilian at its core and global in its reach. It also carries the tension they live with every day. Brazil is vivid and chaotic. Germany is precise and calm.
