മലയാളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തനായ ചെറുകഥാകൃത്തായിരുന്നു കാരൂർ. ഇദ്ദേഹം സാഹിത്യ പ്രസാധക സഹകരണ സംഘത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥാപക സെക്രട്ടറി ആയിരുന്നു. ഒരു അദ്ധ്യാപകനുമായിരുന്നു ഇദ്ദേഹം. മലയാള സാഹിത്യ ലോകത്തു സൂക്ഷ്മമായ ജീവിത നിരീക്ഷണങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ടു വേറിട്ടു നിൽക്കുന്നവയാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൃതികൾ. മനുഷ്യ നന്മയിലാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വിശ്വാസം. നന്മകളാൽ സമൃദ്ധമായ നാട്ടിൻപുറമാണ് കാരൂർ കഥകളുടെ തട്ടകം.
