Last week, X, formerly known as Twitter, rolled at un update that discloses the location of accounts. The update unmasked a number of controversial accounts by showing that were not based in the places they claimed to be. Accounts pretending to be American while weighing in on politics, religion, immigration and even music turned out to be based in India, Thailand and Bangladesh.
Some question the accuracy of the information as users are able to use VPNs to hide their actual IP addresses.
Regardless, are we in an age where we need more transparency? Have we forfeited our right to anonymity? Is the update a welcomed one?
