Paramahansa Yogananda was born on January 5, 1893 in Gorakhpur(U.P.), India. His birth name was Mukunda Lal Ghosh, and his parents were from Bengali Kshatriya(warrior clan) cast. He saw spirituality, devotion, meditation, and Kriya Yoga, at the early stage of his life. Paramahansa Yogananda learned more ways of Kriya Yoga, meditation, spirituality, and manifestation under the guidance of Shri Yukteshwar. Paramahansa Yogananda founded the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India(YSS) in 1917 and Self-Realization Fellowship(SRF) in 1920 to spread his teachings worldwide and preserve their purity for generations to come. He spent most of his remaining life in America, spreading his message, and entered Mahasamadhi(a yogi’s final conscious exit from the body) in Los Angeles, California, on March 7, 1952.
