Zen Retrievers Help Anxious Pets

Pets are inspirational and offer divine inspiration and creativity.

In this episode, Cathy talks with Labrador Retrievers, Sanchez the Yellow Lab (In Spirit), and Gina the Black Lab about how they inspired their person, Lisa Spector, to use her Juilliard degree to play classical music for pets to relieve their anxiety and stress.

Cathy met Lisa 20 years ago when she brought her 4-month-old Guide Dog for the Blind puppy, Sanchez to one of my Animal Communication classes. Since then, Lisa has become a long-time client, student and friend.

Sanchez and Gina are Guide Dogs for the Blind career change dogs, meaning they were not suitable to be a guide dogs. Instead, they became Lisa’s dogs and her animal muses.

Sanchez's anxiety led Lisa to discover that playing classical piano music at a slow pace calmed pet anxiety. With Sanchez as her inspiration, Lisa co-founded Through a Dog’s Ear and was the pianist on the music series. Her music is backed by science and prescribed by veterinarians to help with separation anxiety, sound phobias, excessive barking, hyperactivity, and crate training. Her music is played in animal shelters worldwide, vet clinics and pet households.

Gina is the Chief Zen Officer of MyZenPet.com where Lisa does a podcast and offers concerts for pets. You can also download or stream her album, Dog Gone Calm, Vol. 1.
