Artist Rhonda Beckham has beaten cancer 14 times. She met with us at the Art From the Streets studio space to talk about how she discovered painting as a child, how illness has impacted her life and how the people at Art from the Streets support her art and sustain her life.
Art from the Streets is a nonprofit based in Austin, Texas. The mission of AFTS is to provide a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit and creativity of those experiencing homelessness is nurtured through their own artistic expression. Because focusing on housing alone does not achieve other equally important goals that are relevant and motivating to improving and sustaining a quality of life. Original artwork is for sale in art shows throughout Austin, Texas. At these shows in the community the artist receives 95% of sales. Artists receive 60% of the final price of online artwork and merchandise sales.
