63: The Price of Diversity - The Baltimore Museum of Art Deaccession Pod
Do you think it’s ok for museums to sell artwork donated to them for public preservation in order to enact their own mission? Do you trust museums that profited off of marginalization in the past to be the leading voices of equity and inclusion?  The Baltimore Museum of Art aka the BMA is auctioning off some art works. We get it, times are tough and they want money… The thing is when you DEACCESSION art from a tax-exempt museum (move it from public access into the hands of a private collector) ethical boundaries are in danger of being crossed. The BMA stated this 65 million dollars will be used to “increase staff salaries, eliminate admission fees for special exhibitions and offer evening hours in an effort to reach an under-served audience.” They’re also using 54.5 million as an Endowment for the “the care of the collection.”  This week the Art Pros Podcast about the BMA, presenting both sides of the argument, the give-everyone-free-ca$h art performance, why we don’t trust museums, and the nitty gritty of institutional activism. The art is for the people not the institution, but is the institution for the people? Find out in this week's episode of the Art Professionals Podcast. [More on [www.artprospodcast.com] • follow us on IG @paid.artists [instagram.com/paid.artists] • donate to our patreon at patreon.com/artprospodcast • email us [artprospodcast@gmail.com]  Music: Intro - News Room News by SpenceOutro - Awaken by Anno Domini Beats
