And when Peter collapses before Christ saying, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man,” Jesus basically tells him: “No. You’re exactly the kind of man I came to use.” If the early Church were inventing a papacy, they wouldn’t start with a man who sinks, panics, and denies Jesus to a servant girl. His weakness isn’t a contradiction. It’s the confirmation. Grace builds the Rock before the Rock carries the Church.
