En noviembre, autoridades de casi 100 países se reunirán en Brasil para la cumbre climática COP30, donde discutirán estrategias y compromisos para enfrentar el cambio climático y la destrucción ambiental. Pero la política es solo una cara de la crisis ambiental. En América Latina, el crimen organizado desempeña un papel central en las actividades que destruyen el medioambiente.

Entre estas actividades, está el tráfico ilegal de fauna. Seis de los países con mayor biodiversidad en el mundo están en América Latina y el Caribe, los cuales concentran cerca del 60% de la fauna silvestre del planeta. El mercado negro global de la fauna y sus derivados mueve hasta US$23.000 millones al año.
