Book Talks the Podcast Episode 44: The Eden Trilogy: Eden Lost, Return to Eden & Almost Eden by Richard Taylor

Eden Lost is set in 1898-1906 in the Philippines during the Philippine-American War. This is the historical genesis for 3 generations following in the footsteps of Josh Armand and Isabella

Gaston.

Return to Eden is set also in the Philippines from 1941-1945 as Joe Armand is helped in his search of his father’s unique and troubling history. As the Japanese occupies Manila, Joe and Luci are forced to escape into the jungles north of Manila to join a band of rugged Philippine guerillas against the Japanese while they hope and pray for McArthur’s promised return. Joe and Luci are married and have a baby—a guerrilla girl—Isabella Armand.

Almost Eden finds Izzy (a Red Cross donut dolly) and Lieutenant Abe Chastain enroute to Vietnam, both against the wishes of their parents. In Vietnam they see each other occasionally at the Army-Navy Base at Dong Tam until Izzy is sent to Saigon just in time for the 1968 Tet Offensive. She is sent back to Manila and Joe is badly wounded and winds up there as well. They also are married at Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville before Izzy works on her degree as a counselor to eventually work for the VA. Abe is assigned to Fort Benning until he leaves the army to work for his father-in-law. When it appears their troubles are over, they get progressively worse, then worse still, leading to tears and heartache for the devoted reader.
