Small Hope Bay Lodge was built in 1960 by Dick Birch. His son Jeff now runs the lodge and one of the hallmarks of the Birch family contribution to the community is their involvement with children's education and conservation efforts, both marine and terrestrial. This level of involvement is now being taken to a whole new level by Jeff Birch and as group of volunteers who have just created the Small Hope Bay Foundation.
