David Zwoboda joins today to talk about how his unique combination of understanding modern medicine as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and the world of psychedelics blends to form a special approach to transformation and upgrading your spirituality.
The conversation touches on the apprehensions people may have before committing to going to a retreat, such as the cost of flights or safety concerns.
There is also a discussion on why people may hesitate to go on these retreats, such as fear of the challenging change that they know they need to make in their lives.
People who are ready to change will feel a call for the medicine, and that the retreat may not be the right thing for everyone.
David explains how he got inspired to create a jujitsu camp that focuses on the spiritual and mental wellness aspects of the martial art.
He had always wanted to teach jujitsu and had plans to start a camp in the future.
However, when his wife's friend canceled their women's retreat, they were left with a non-refundable deposit on a retreat center in Mexico.
His wife suggested that they use the center to start the jujitsu camp.
David believes that there is an undercurrent of interest in spirituality and psychedelics within the jujitsu community, but there is no platform to discuss it.
He wants to create a cultural revolution in jujitsu by bringing spirituality to the forefront and reinstating it as part of the martial art.
David believes that every person needs to train jujitsu and take some angle to appreciate the mental and spiritual wellness component of the physical art of jujitsu. Matt and David explore the concept of a rite of passage, which involves experiencing hardship and having direct contact with the divine or something greater than oneself.
They mention a Lakota tradition where a young boy sits blindfolded in the forest overnight, transcending fear and finding acceptance.
The speaker relates this to jiu-jitsu, where the suffering and hardship of training leads to a transcendence of physical suffering and a direct experience of reality.
They also mention using jiu-jitsu as a form of meditation, leading to absolute presence and focus.
