In 1918, the White Sox replaced manager Pants Rowland with Kid Gleason, a fiery figure who had previously coached the team. Despite winning the pennant in 1919, the teams victory was overshadowed by the Black Sox scandal. In 1925, the Sox traded pitcher Charlie Robertson, who had a perfect game in 1922, to the Cleveland Indians. Robertsons career was marked by injuries and a decline in performance. In 1940, the Sox traded catcher Ken Silvestri to the New York Yankees for second baseman Bill Knickerbocker, who provided utility value in his one season with the team.
