In the first edition of the China Tech Chat podcast, Betty and Kimo address the question of whether China could lose its status as "factory of the world" and what the current developments mean.
Already in 2019 and 2020, many multinational technology companies, such as Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic and Sony decided to move their production capacities to other South-East Asian countries. Vietnam in particular was able to benefit from this trend, recording a year-on-year growth of 30.4% in exports in April 2022, while China only recorded a growth of 3.9%.
More recently, hard lockdowns in response to new Covid-19 outbreaks in China have made the issue very present again.
Betty and Kimo discuss the topic based on extensive research and analysis and their own personal experience from their day-to-day work and on the ground. The results of the analysis are also published as an article on ChineseAlpha.com.
