Heather reflects that she didn’t always feel comfortable at these events as a girlfriend or fiancé - it can feel like there are a lot of unspoken rules and traditions that take time to learn and become familiar with. Now after 10 years of attending military events, Heather says she still gets nervous, but has decided to go into them with a positive mindset knowing others may be feeling the same!

These events can be a great opportunity to meet new people going through the same things as you, so just say yes and go to the event! Most importantly, talk to your partner about how you’re feeling before and at these events; it’s important to be on the same team.
