Cliffhanger: Paranormal and Cryptid Encounters is a bold Australian podcast exploring terrifying true stories, mysterious creatures, and eerie encounters that blur the line between myth and reality. Hosted by Ben, a Koori lad with an eye for the unexplained and a voice you won’t forget, this show pulls you into the dark corners of the world — from haunted bushland to remote valleys and hidden tracks where few dare to tread.
Whether it’s the guttural howls of a Yowie shaking the gumtrees, glowing eyes in the paddock at midnight, strange lights hovering over back-country skies, or the spirit of a long-dead farmer standing at the foot of your bed — these stories aren’t folklore… they’re firsthand.
Each episode features raw storytelling, cultural insight, and often chilling interviews with everyday Aussies and Indigenous Elders who’ve come face-to-face with things most only whisper about. Some tales are ancient, passed down through generations. Others happened just last week. All of them will leave you questioning what’s really out there.
You’ll hear:
This isn’t polished true crime or overproduced horror. This is the real shit — raw, uncut, and straight from the source. We don’t shy away from swearing or fear. We lean into it.
So grab your torch, charge your recorder, and settle in. We’re here to document the unknown, share the unspeakable, and give a voice to the people who’ve experienced the unexplainable — and were never the same again.
Stay sharp, trust your instincts… and remember — if the bush goes quiet, you’re not alone.

A Yowie… in the outer suburbs of Melbourne?
Most people picture Yowie encounters happening deep in the ranges or hidden valleys but sometimes, they’re a lot closer to home than we’d like to think.
In this episode of Cliffhanger: Paranormal and Cryptid Encounters, we hear from John a current police officer with over three decades on the force as he recalls the single most terrifying night of his life.
More than forty years ago, John was just twelve years old, camping with his younger brother and cousins on a quiet property near Ringwood, Victoria. What started as a night of laughs and shenanigans quickly turned into raw, paralysing fear when something massive began circling their campsite in the dark. They never saw it but they could hear it. Heavy, deliberate footsteps… and the unmistakable sound of deep, powerful breathing from something with lungs far too big to belong to any ordinary animal.
When the fear finally became too much, the kids tore off to the house terrified, shaking, and certain they’d just come face to face with something impossible.
Later, it became clear this wasn’t an isolated incident. The neighbours had been losing poultry some time and looking back now, John believes this hairy lad had been making easy meals of the local animals for a while.
Even all these years later, the memory still sends shivers down his spine and knowing what he knows now, John suspects he may have even felt the effects of infrasound that night.
So settle in, legends this is one you won’t forget. A chilling Yowie encounter from Melbourne’s outskirts that proves… they’re not always as far away as we think.
