Beyond Distribution: Climate Justice as Epistemic Justice
Calls for clinate justice are intensifying around the world. But what exactly is climate justice? Conventionally, theories of climate justice have focused on the dimension of distributive justice and neglected, among other issues, the ethics of climate-related knowledge production itself. Drawing on Miranda Fricker's work on epistemic injustice, this talk raises questions such as: Whose voices are seen as legitimate/credible in relation to climate change and whose perspectives aren't? How come mainstream climate justice theories themselves often legitimize injustice?
