Hello friends! We are back with a brand new episode with Dr. Courtney Jones! This one was a real treat because of the energy and passion that Dr. Jones brings. He might of even walked us through how he makes his coffee and his set up! You'll have to watch and find out! Dr. Courtney D. Jones is an award-winning Bach performing and recording artist who has also emerged as a leading figure in contemporary performance and pedagogy, chamber and brass band conducting, pedagogy, and service to inner-city youth through music outreach programs., Dr. Jones is in high demand as a soloist, clinician, and adjudicator while transcending stylistic boundaries performing throughout North America and Internationally. In addition to his solo performance career and performing with well-known jazz and popular artists, he has shared the stage with famous artists or groups such as Kenny Burrell, B.B. King, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Rihanna, Lalo Schifrin, Vanessa Williams, Boy George and The Culture Club, and Stevie Wonder. Dr. Jones has performed as a featured soloist or collaborative artist with the Golden States Pop Orchestra, the Southeast Symphony Orchestra, the Macao Orchestra (China), the Pasadena Orchestra, the Debut Orchestra, the Inspiravi Chamber Orchestra, the Orchid City Brass Band, the Oslo Philharmonic (Norway), the Long Beach Opera, Symphony of the Americas, the Los Angeles Trombone Collective in collaboration with James Miller, the Salt-River Brass Band, the Gateways Festival Orchestra, and was appointed Musical Director of the Orchid City Brass Band of South Florida. Courtney is also represented by the Naxos and Summit Music labels and his feature film and television credits include music performed for Glee, Notes from Dad, Cougar Town, and Criminal Minds, among other works mentioned on his personal website’s media category. Dr. Jones completed his Doctor of Musical Arts and taught at UCLA, served as Visiting Professor of Trumpet at the University of Iowa, Lecturer of Music at Columbus State University, and currently Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Artistic Director of Jazz and Chamber Ensembles at Florida Atlantic University. Between teaching and solo performing engagements, Jones has promoted music education and instrumental performance in inner-city schools through the Music Outreach Program at UCLA, The Harmony Project of Los Angeles, Trumpets 4 Kids in Dallas, Texas, the Nat King Cole Hope, Inc. Foundation and the Gateways Music Festival in Rochester, New York. Each of these programs offers schoolchildren arts-in-education opportunities. These programs are essential because they provide underserved, inner-city students, and communities with musical training and mentorship that would otherwise be inaccessible. Hello everyone! We are excited to bring you a thoughtful and what we believe to be an impactful interview with Dr. Aaron Witek! Dr. Aaron Witek joined the faculty of Ithaca College’s School of Music in 2018 as Assistant Professor of Trumpet. From 2013-2018, Witek was on faculty at the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) where he was part of the faculty ensemble in residence, Black Bayou Brass. Witek is active as a performer and educator while maintaining a demanding performance schedule. He has performed and given master classes throughout the U.S., China, Australia, and Bangladesh. Witek is sought out as an adjudicator and has judged at the International Trumpet Guild Conference (ITG) and National Trumpet Competition. A noted author, Dr. Witek has been published numerous times in the ITG Journal. His book, Gordon Mathie: The Treasured Legacy of a Master Teacher and Performer, was published by WR Enterprises. In May 2018, Witek released his first publication with Mountain Peak Music entitled Solo Duet Training for Trumpet. Students who study with Witek have seen various successes, including being recipients of ITG scholarships and becoming a division finalist in the Music Teachers National Association Competition, and semifinalists at the National Trumpet Competition. Witek was recognized with two awards from his previous appointment at ULM: the Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching; and the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences Dean's Award of Excellence. Witek earned his D.M. and M.M. degrees from Florida State University, and a B.M.Ed. degree from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.
