We often allow insecurity to keep us from doing something that we really need to do. We think we are too weak or disqualified - someone better should be doing it, not us. Often, this thinking can pollute our minds when it comes to evangelism. We think we’re not qualified to go, or are “too messed up” to share the Gospel with others.
ARE YOU LETTING WEAKNESS OR INSECURITY KEEP YOU FROM SHARING THE GOSPEL?
God calls us as we are! He doesn’t wait until we’re perfect. He can use you now.
2 CORINTHIANS 12:7-9 NLT [7] even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. [8] Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. [9] Each time he said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
God can (and will) use you despite feeling weak or unqualified.
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 NLT [1] When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn't use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God's secret plan. [2] For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. [3] I came to you in weakness-timid and trembling. [4] And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. [5] I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.
Paul’s decision to bring the Gospel to Corinth was intentionally simple, weak, and unimpressive on the surface. Paul had the qualification and pedigree to come boasting in his own human wisdom. As a former Jew, he was highly educated and trained in the ways of the Scriptures. However, while he was a skilled speaker, he intentionally came to them in weakness and in trembling. Paul was not caught up in his delivery or his performance. He was there to illustrate a powerful point: God uses weak people to show His power.
Don’t allow the enemy to poison your mind and distract you. He wants to convince you that you’re not good enough. God’s call on your life is firm, and His power is made perfect in your weakness. Don’t wait - go as you are!
GO AS YOU ARE.
Luke 21:14-15 NLT [14] So don't worry in advance about how to answer the charges against you, [15] for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you!
The promise that Jesus gave to His disciples is still true for us today. He will provide the words and the wisdom that no adversary will be able to resist or contradict.
Don’t put the weight on your shoulders. Evangelism is not about your ability to convince someone. It is the Holy Spirit who draws the hearts of people to Himself.
While there’s nothing wrong with growing in our understanding of Jesus and our communication (in fact, it’s encouraged), don’t let any lack keep you from going. There are people in your life who need you. God will provide the words and wisdom.
GO IN WEAKNESS AND RELY ON GOD.
Don’t wait to go. You’ll never feel perfectly equipped and ready. What’s important is the faithful obedience that Jesus is asking for. Go and share the Gospel. Rely on God. He will provide what is necessary for you.
