
In the 16th letter of Tanya's Igeret Hakodesh, the Alter Rebbe addresses his struggling Chassidim, urging them to continue their tradition of generous giving to jews in Eretz Yisrael.the Alter Rebbe discusses the halachic principle of 'Chayecha Kodmin' (your life comes first) and how it applies to the act of charity. The letter emphasizes the importance of empathy and going beyond the letter of the law to help those in need. The Alter Rebbe points out that the sages promise that one who gives a loan to a poor person, G-d will pay them back double in this world.
