The “Should You Get Your Art MFA?” Talk with Prof. Andrew Demirjian from New York City

Do artists need an MFA to start their careers?

With more and more funding and grant opportunities stating, “Artists do not need a formal education to apply,” the degree has become less and less of a gatekeeper for artists. So, what are the pros and cons of art education?

Listen to the thoughts of Professor Andrew Demirjian, who taught in an Integrated Media Arts program for ten years in the heart of New York City.

Guest speaker: Andrew Demirjian

Andrew Demirjian builds linguistic, sonic and visual environments that disrupt habituated ways of reading, hearing and seeing. His interdisciplinary artistic practice examines structures that shape consciousness and perception, questioning frameworks that support the status quo and limit thought.

Andrew teaches theory and production courses in emerging media in the Film and Media Department and the Integrated Media Arts MFA program at Hunter College.
