Holiday Survival Guide

The holidays are often called “the most wonderful time of the year.”

And for many of us, that’s only part of the story.

In this Holiday Survival Guide, I explore why we react differently with family than we do anywhere else, why old wounds and strong emotions surface so quickly, and how we can move through the season feeling safer withinourselves and more capable of navigating the moments and relationships that matter most.

This isn’t about creating a perfect family holiday.
It’s about creating a realistic, grounded, and healthy one.

In this episode:

• Why family interactions carry so much emotional weight

• When every shot from family is a “zinger” and what to do about it

• How holidays intensify stress, expectations, and old roles

• Practical tools and strategies to show up as your best self

Six Holiday Survival Strategies (Download the PDF →)

1. Fully Show Up to Joy (Practice Enjoying)
When things get loud and chaotic, joy gets missed.
Practice leaning into what’s good — laughter, food, traditions, small moments —without clinging or fear of disappointment.

2. Expect the Pain (Face Reality)
There will likely be sadness, anger, disappointment, or grief.
Naming this ahead of time helps us stay grounded instead of surprised oroverwhelmed.

3. Be Aware of Your Expectations
We all enter the holidays with expectations — often unconscious ones.
Once expectations become conscious, we can respond with intention instead ofreaction.

4. Boundaries — Internal First, Then External
Boundaries begin with what you allow, how you respond, and when you take space.
Healthy boundaries are invitations, not ultimatums.

5. Ask: “What’s Mine to Do (and Not Mine to Do)?”
With family, we often regress into old roles.
Discernment helps us stop over-functioning, rescuing, or abandoning ourselves.

6. Ask: “How Do I Want to Show Up?”
We show up at our best when we feel safe within ourselves.
Grounded. Calm. Aware. Boundaried. Whole.
