Hello, this is Dev, and Im here to introduce you to ‘Devin Townsend Podcast’ - A monthly series of observations about the process of writing and creating music.
This new version of the podcast will shift focus slightly and move on from simply talking about my past records, and instead focus on a real time observation of the next ones. I have a fair amount of experience to offer, however rather than trying to come across as some sort of a 'self help' character, I feel that theres enough people asking me how those experiences have shaped my writing that this seemed to be an angle to get behind, and in our tiny little scene, it seems like there was actually space for it. So here we go.
This will evolve into interviews with the people involved, and glimpses behind the scenes of it all. In the past, this part of the journey has been kept under wraps, but after years of being asked for advice and upon being offered a platform to speak, this seemed like the one thing I am actually 'qualified' to speak about.

The DTPodcast is intended as a real time counterpart to the making of one of my projects. In this inaugural episode, (prior to getting into the nuts and bolts of it all) I discuss the concept of Synesthesia (when your brain routes sensory information through multiple unrelated senses, causing you to experience more than one sense simultaneously) the misconceptions of it, and how it acts as simply another type of musical vocabulary. How it relates to my work, and questioning if its actually a learnable trait.
