The #DiversityAU podcast series explores key focus areas in Aarhus University’s work to promote diversity and gender equality. The second season is out now and focuses on AU’s action plan for gender equality 2020-2022. Zooming in on the four focus areas of the action plan - recruitment, career development, leadership and workplace culture - Danish journalist Carsten Ortmann interviews four experts on each of these areas. The second season aims to inspire and provide practical advice on how to achieve the ambitious goals set out in the action plan.

Julia Nafziger: ”Man skal have vilje, have en plan og kende sine styrker og svagheder”
I andet afsnit af #DiversityAU-podcast kan du møde Julia Nafziger, som er professor på Institut for Økonomi. Nafziger er født i Tyskland og har igennem sin akademiske karriere haft ophold på universiteter i USA, Storbritannien, Frankrig og Belgien, inden hun for 12 år siden kom til Aarhus Universitet.
I samtalen med journalist Nynne Bjerre Christensen fortæller Nafziger, at det var fordybelsen, arbejdet med de store samfundsmæssige spørgsmål og friheden til selv at vælge sine projekter, der tiltrak hende ved livet som forsker.
Samtalen kommer desuden ind på hendes møde med et meget konkurrencepræget akademisk miljø. Hun fortæller om arbejdet med sin tvivl og tro på egne evner. Hun fortæller også om mødet med opmuntrende og inspirerende vejledere, der har hjulpet hende undervejs.
Undervejs kommer Nafziger med bud på, hvordan man kan forbedre kvinders karrieremuligheder i forskningsverdenen. Til sidst giver hun gode råd til unge, særligt kvindelige, forskere, der selv overvejer en karriere i academia.
