The #DiversityAU podcast series explores key focus areas in Aarhus University’s work to promote diversity and gender equality. The second season is out now and focuses on AU’s action plan for gender equality 2020-2022. Zooming in on the four focus areas of the action plan - recruitment, career development, leadership and workplace culture - Danish journalist Carsten Ortmann interviews four experts on each of these areas. The second season aims to inspire and provide practical advice on how to achieve the ambitious goals set out in the action plan.

Liv Hornekær: ”For mange passede jeg ikke ind i billedet af, hvordan en professor i fysik ser ud”
I dette femte afsnit kan du møde Liv Hornekær, der i 2017, som den første kvinde nogensinde, blev udnævnt til professor i fysik på Aarhus Universitet. I 2016 modtog hun desuden Eliteforsk-prisen.
Liv Hornekær kommer blandt andet ind på, hvad det er, der driver hende som forsker. Hun beskriver forskerrollen som et kald – og hvordan interessen for naturvidenskaben går tilbage til barndommen.
I samtale med journalist Nynne Bjerre Christensen kommer Liv Hornekær ind på vigtigheden af at være tykhudet og ikke mindst bevidst om, hvilken vej man vil gå med sin forskning.
Hun reflekterer over vigtigheden af at kende egne styrker og sætte ambitiøse mål for sin forskning, når man skal konkurrere om de store forskningsbevillinger.
I forhold til at skabe bedre karrieremuligheder for kvinder fremhæver Hornekær, at man ikke må lave systemerne for rigide fx i forhold til krav om udlandsophold. Hun mener desuden, at vejledere kan blive bedre til at støtte og opmuntre de talenter, de møder. Endelig mener hun, at der bør være bedre plads til ”skæve tanker” i forskningsmiljøerne – og pointerer forskningsledernes rolle i dette.
Til sidst i afsnittet giver hun gode råd til unge, kvindelige forskere, der selv overvejer en karriere i academia.
