The #DiversityAU podcast series explores key focus areas in Aarhus University’s work to promote diversity and gender equality. The second season is out now and focuses on AU’s action plan for gender equality 2020-2022. Zooming in on the four focus areas of the action plan - recruitment, career development, leadership and workplace culture - Danish journalist Carsten Ortmann interviews four experts on each of these areas. The second season aims to inspire and provide practical advice on how to achieve the ambitious goals set out in the action plan.

Nina Lock: ”Man bliver nødt til at stole på egne evner”
I fjerde afsnit af #DiversityAU-podcast fortæller lektor Nina Lock om sin forskningskarriere, der startede på kemi, og hvordan hun via flere udlandsophold nu er landet på Institut for Ingeniørvidenskab på Aarhus Universitet.
I samtalen med journalist Nynne Bjerre Christensen fortæller Lock blandt andet om den store betydning, hendes udlandsophold har haft for hendes karriereforløb.
Hun kommer desuden ind på vigtigheden af at kunne begå sig i et konkurrencepræget arbejdsmiljø, om udfordringen med at ville stifte familie og skabe karriere med tilhørende udlandsophold samtidig og uvisheden om, hvorvidt karrieresporet pludseligt kan ende blindt.
Lock fremhæver desuden den betydning, hendes vejledere og mentorer har haft for hendes karriereforløb – og vigtigheden af at skabe sig et solidt professionelt netværk.
Til sidst i afsnittet giver hun sine bud på, hvilke tiltag man kunne bruge for at fastholde flere kvinder i forskningskarrierer. I forlængelse af det giver hun gode råd til unge, kvindelige forskere, der overvejer en karriere i academia.
