On this episode of Do It Again But Better, Jess chats to actor Monty Burgess about their vast array of procedural roles, the Heartbreak High experience that almost came full circle, and the raunchy audiobook line that takes the cake—and speaking of, Monty shares stories of his love for baked treats and where to find them, the real-life Party Down job that brought gratitude, and the audition they nailed but somehow, didn't book.
Monty Burgess was deported from the United Kingdom for unspecified unlawfulness in the late 1980s. After stretches of time in various juvenile facilities, Monty was ill advisedly persuaded to attend university for his own betterment. After the diversion of attaining a degree in psychology and literature, he achieved a level of self determination and was able to turn his focus to his true passion - acting. Having worked on little bits and pieces, as drama series in Australia started to shut up shop (Blue Heelers, Water Rats, McLeod's Daughters, Murder Call), yearning for more training, Monty headed back to the UK, where he lived, studied and worked for over a decade. All was well and on the up until the British government decided to shoot itself in the foot and leave the EU, to which Monty thought to himself 'well fuck that for a joke', and returned to Australia in 2017.
