Although Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is most noted for his "I Have A Dream!" ,speech, he did many other things including write a letter while being held inside a Birmingham Jail.  This letter was in response to criticism by a moderate group of clergy who were disappointed in the tactics MLK was employing to hasten the end of segregation. Dr. King's non-violent marches, sit-ins, and writings were ratcheting up tensions so that legal actions could occur more quickly, but the critics weren't at all critical of the conditions which gave rise to the tensions in the first place. Dr. King highlighted his feelings very well within the letter response. One major theme of the letter is the discussion about SAMENESS rather than DIFFERENCES in how he described people.  J.D.
