Résumé:
La Guerre de Troie n'aura pas lieu a été créée en 1935, par les soins de Louis Jouvet. Après Siegfried, elle s'affirma - son succès en a témoigné - comme une des rares œuvres maîtresses du répertoire français contemporain à aborder un des grands problèmes politiques du temps. Jean Vilar l'a montée en 1962, pour le Festival d'Avignon, et l'a reprise au Théâtre National Populaire (TNP) en 1963.

Hector, le chef troyen, revient victorieux d'une guerre. A Troie, il est beaucoup question de l'enlèvement d'Hélène, reine de Sparte, par le prince Pâris. Hector retrouve sa femme, Andromaque ; il apprend qu'elle attend un enfant.
