Glass heart, thick skin and language learning?玻璃心、厚脸皮与语言学习(bō lí xīn, hòu liǎn pí yǔ yǔ yán xué xí)- Chinese learning podcast【Ep27】

Welcome back! Today we'll talk about two Chinese idioms that describe personality traits and are also relevant to language learning: 玻璃心 (bōlí xīn) and 厚脸皮 (hòu liǎnpí). 玻璃心 literally translates to "glass heart," meaning a heart that is so fragile it shatters easily. This term describes someone who is too sensitive, emotionally vulnerable, and easily hurt. In contrast, the opposite term is 厚脸皮, which can be translated as "thick-skinned" or "shameless." When used to describe someone else, it can be quite rude; however, when used to describe oneself, it suggests that one is not easily embarrassed, is bold, and can handle criticism or awkward situations without being easily deterred.
