Simple Breathwork Techniques to Calm Anxiety Fast

This episode dives right into how breathwork can be a quick, accessible, and powerful tool for managing anxiety and stress, especially in the midst of busy or challenging times. Heather, as a certified somatics coach and trauma-informed breathwork facilitator, shares her own experiences with anxiety and the ways breathwork has been transformative for her.

The episode highlights three super practical breathwork techniques that you can use any time, anywhere, without any special training:

  1. Box Breathing: Inhale for four seconds, hold for four seconds, exhale for four seconds (or up to five seconds each, as mentioned). It’s simple and grounding—great for when you need to focus, calm your emotions, or start your day with a clean slate.

  2. Extended Exhale: Inhale for four seconds, exhale for six to eight seconds. This longer exhale calms the nervous system and can be especially useful if you’re feeling triggered or overwhelmed.

  3. Sighing Breath (Audible Exhale): Take a big inhale through the nose and let out an audible sigh through your mouth. This one’s wonderful for releasing tension, especially during transitions or before bed. You can even add gentle movement if it feels good.

Heather does a wonderful job of normalizing anxiety, sharing that it’s a part of everyone’s experience at times, and emphasizing that there’s no shame in needing tools to regulate your nervous system. She also makes the important point that these breathwork techniques can help regulate your emotions and energy, making you more receptive and clear-headed—which not only supports mental health but can also enhance your manifestation journey.
