FBM encourages mothers to pause and reflect on our “why” as we experience and practice mothering. It asks that we actively explore the overlapping personal, systemic, and historical factors that influence our mothering perspectives and use that information to craft “a personal theory of motherhood” that works for us. The effort calls out the patterns of martyr-based mothering that encourage all mothers, especially Black women, to die to themselves and and oversacrifice in motherhood. Finally, it encourages us to view our freedom as an emotional inheritance that guides the next generation.

And we explore important questions like "Is all representation good representation?" and "What's holding us back from representing ourselves authentically?"
