FBM encourages mothers to pause and reflect on our “why” as we experience and practice mothering. It asks that we actively explore the overlapping personal, systemic, and historical factors that influence our mothering perspectives and use that information to craft “a personal theory of motherhood” that works for us. The effort calls out the patterns of martyr-based mothering that encourage all mothers, especially Black women, to die to themselves and and oversacrifice in motherhood. Finally, it encourages us to view our freedom as an emotional inheritance that guides the next generation.

Is perfect mothering possible?

I'm still chewing on how the "Quest for the best" impacts us in life and motherhood. What about you?

Mentioned in the episode:

Stop Waiting for Perfect by L'Oreal Thompson Payton

Legacy: A Black Physician Reckons with Racism in Medicine Dr. Uché Blackstock

Get them from a Black-owned bookstore, like Enda’s BOOKtique, an independent bookstore in Duncanville/Cedar Hill (Dallas), Texas (I get 90% of my books from here ^_^)
