Free Black Motherhood

FBM encourages mothers to pause and reflect on our “why” as we experience and practice mothering. It asks that we actively explore the overlapping personal, systemic, and historical factors that influence our mothering perspectives and use that information to craft “a personal theory of motherhood” that works for us. The effort calls out the patterns of martyr-based mothering that encourage all mothers, especially Black women, to die to themselves and and oversacrifice in motherhood. Finally, it encourages us to view our freedom as an emotional inheritance that guides the next generation.

Quick (informal) Check in: Have you ever been enveloped in care?

During this quick check-in, I reflect on the overwhelm of the world and get curious about what we need to feel cared for.

LMK what you think of this shorter check-in format in the comments or in my dm's!! (FreeBlackmotherhood)
