Welcome, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. You know, January fifth is that tricky little moment, isn't it? You're past the sparkly newness of the new year, but you haven't quite found your rhythm yet. Maybe you're tired. Maybe you're wondering if you're doing enough. And maybe, just maybe, you're running on fumes while your to-do list keeps growing. Well, today we're going to press pause on all that striving and remember what's already right in front of us.
Let's settle in together. Find yourself a comfortable seat, somewhere that feels safe. If you're standing, that's fine too. Just plant your feet. And when you're ready, take a deep breath in through your nose, and exhale slowly through your mouth. Good. One more time. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Feel how that simple act already shifts something inside you? That's our foundation.
Now, I want to invite you into something I call a gratitude scan. This isn't about forcing yourself to feel grateful for the hard things. This is about noticing the small gifts that are already present. Close your eyes if that feels comfortable.
Start at the top of your head. Notice the warmth of your hair catching the light. Move down to your eyes. Even if they're tired, they've let you see something beautiful today, haven't they? Your ears, your voice, your hands. These aren't things you had to earn. They're here.
Now, scan your immediate world. What's one thing you can physically feel right now? Maybe it's the chair supporting you, or your feet touching the ground. That support is real. It's here. Notice the air moving in and out of your body. Notice that you're alive and breathing in this very moment.
Here's my favorite part. Think of one person who made your life easier this week, even in a tiny way. Someone who sent a text, held a door, or simply existed when you needed them. Let yourself feel that warmth.
Take three more conscious breaths together.
When you step back into your day, carry this with you. Tonight, before bed, write down three small things. Not world-changing things, just small ones. Your coffee. A kind word. The sun. Watch how your perspective shifts when you practice this daily.
