finding my way back with Josh Proper

During this week’s episode of Greener Fields, Hannah chats with 26 year old Josh Proper from Waterford now living in Wicklow, who is now two years into his recovery journey.

In this beautifully honest conversation, Josh speaks about his childhood and shares his lived experience with addiction — describing how it began, how he spent years functioning on the surface, and how distractions kept him from facing what was really going on.

After reaching the point he describes as “giving up on himself,” Josh talks about finding Tiglin, what those early days of recovery were like, and how community became the turning point he didn’t know he needed. From joining Inner Fight and meeting friends who have become family, to discovering purpose in endurance running and routine, Josh shares how connection helped rebuild his life.

Throughout the episode Josh reflects on the power of communication, the importance of honesty and the quiet work of figuring yourself out with no shortcuts. His message is simple but strong: be you, and own it.

This really is a special conversation — so make sure to check it out this week.

TW: Topics of addiction, mental health & suicide are discussed.
