Google parent Alphabet is in settlement negotiations with the U.S. Department of Justice over allegations of monopolistic practices in online advertising following a federal court ruling that Google illegally monopolized ad auction technology. The DOJ has proposed that Google sell its Google Ad Manager business, and delays in trial closing arguments suggest ongoing settlement talks. A settlement could affect other digital ad companies including Magnite, PubMatic, and Trade Desk. Google has also submitted remedies to the European Commission after receiving a nearly 3 billion euro antitrust fine. Google shares rose over four percent amid news of the settlement talks, while shares of other ad tech firms experienced volatility.
