#026 - Igor Anthony Estes - Sound of Underground

I sit down with my friend Iggy, a true embodiment of this global fusion. Iggy is half Thai and half American, with friends spanning the globe and interests that cross all cultural boundaries. Young Iggy is navigating through life with the help of philosophy, music, and friendship. Our conversation opened my eyes to the deeper layers of Thai culture, revealing how parents' expectations often clash with the rapidly changing world around us. Parents expect certain things but today's world is set up so that those expectations can be obsolete. From religious and traditional accepted norms to music and food, society is going through a rapid globalization so you can find a similar version of things you would find in a specific part of the world anywhere else. Shopping malls and nightclubs are an example. Iggy paints a vivid picture of Chiang Mai's small but vibrant nightlife scene, with its handful of intimate nightclubs. His insights transported me back to my nights out and underscored the universal truth: no matter where we are in the world, we are united by music, friendship, and good vibes.
