Hearing God in Scripture

The title of our podcast is pretty straightforward. We are looking to hear God in Scripture. We believe proper hermeneutics is rare, that is, the ability to properly read the Bible is not commonly known or practiced. We believers are commanded to know and study the Scriptures. We should also study to properly understand what they say. These Scriptures are God’s words to us. God spoke to us. Now we need to read them right. Not only did God speak, He still speaks. We shouldn’t just read the Scripture to pull it apart and examine it, we should be listening to God, listening for His voice as we read the text. Our hermeneutic is, “the Text is the Master”. We submit to the text. We do not have the right to twist it around to make it say what we want it to say. Rather, we discover what God is saying to us through His Word. Then we submit to whatever He says. So, hear God in the Scriptures. That is what we are trying to do and we invite you to do this with us.

53: Why Are You Weeping (John 20:15-16)

John 20:15-16
15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).

Mary goes back to the tomb after they discovered that Jesus was not in the tomb, and she and the other women had told the disciples. Mary goes back to the tomb to weep. She is broken. She was broken on Friday, when Jesus died. Now she is weeping. And Jesus meets her in the weeping and brokenness. He lets her go into that brokenness. Out of that brokenness, when Jesus reveals himself, she is changed and overwhelmed by Jesus. That is what God wants to do with us.
