Welcome to Historic Boston: Beacon Hill, a walking tour of one of Boston’s best known but least explored neighborhoods. In episode 4, we will walk the grounds of the Massachusetts State House, one of the most beautiful government buildings in the United States. We will discuss the building of the new State House in 1795, and how it would set off real estate speculation transformed this rural area into a fast growing neighborhood. The key sites we will see include: the Massachusetts State House, the Robert Gould Shaw & the 54th Regiment Memorial, and the plaque for the former home of John Hancock.
