58. Serious About Speaking? It’s Time to Get Funny (Lynne Parker)
In this episode of the Ideas on Stage podcast we spoke with Lynne Parker. Lynne Parker founded Funny Women in 2002 in response to a comedy promoter who told her that 'women aren't funny'. She went on to create the Funny Women Awards and, 20 years on, the rest is history. Funny Women is now an acclaimed not for profit community for women to build self-confidence and develop their own distinctive voice. Lynne describes it as her ‘life’s work’ providing a safe, diverse, creative platform that empowers women to perform, write and use humour in business and everyday life. In addition to producing comedy shows and running events, Lynne is a renowned performance coach encouraging people in business and public life to 'Stand Up to Stand Out'. Borrowing techniques from the world of stand-up comedy, Lynne has developed workshops and runs events under the HERlarious brand to improve self-confidence, support health and wellbeing, and build teams. Her work empowers many women both professionally and personally to have a voice. Lynne brings her two worlds together in her podcast, HOW TO HAVE FUN AT WORK with guests from both comedy and business. In this episode we talked about humour in communication. Key takeaways: - The value of humour in business communication is - Challenges with humour in communication - Making humour work in diverse cultures - Humour and gender in the workplace - Tips for those wary of humour's impact on professionalism We hope you enjoy it! ——————— LINKS:
