Gavaskar is from Mobeni Heights in Durban, South Africa. He turned 43 recently. Gavaskar has an illness called AVM – which is a brain aneurysm and vascular malfunction of the brain, which is too much blood pressure fluid flowing to the brain. He has a coil and glue in his head that cuts off the blood pressure fluid flow to his brain. Dr Royston who saw him for the first time, told his parents to take his car keys away, as he is ticking like a time bomb and could cause a major accident in the road.
In 2010 he had 13 brain aneurysm operations and there after another 3 ear operations, where he found out that he had a hole in his ear. After 3 asbestos operations and a spine operation, he could just sit at home and do nothing but gain weight.
