古代植物ソテツ、生殖器を加熱させ虫を引き寄せていた Science誌で米ハーバード大学などが研究報告。 米ハーバード大学などに所属する研究者らがScienceで発表した論文「Infrared radiation is an ancient pollination signal」は、「生きた化石」と呼ばれる古代植物ソテツが、自らの生殖器官を加熱して甲虫を引き寄せ、受粉に利用していることを発見した研究報告だ。一方の甲虫も、この熱を感知するための特殊な赤外線センサーを進化させていた。
