1 - "... GOD is LOVE." 1 John 4:8
2 - "... JOHN ... to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, “Sons of THUNDER” Mark 3:17
It is very significant that John gave the simplest definition of God’s character and that Jesus gave the simplest definition of John’s character.
But one day LOVE met THUNDER ... and everything changed!

John begins with a strong emphasis on Jesus being active “before” any of His creation. This emphasis continues as John highlight how Jesus is active “before” our responses to His salvation. God always initiates, always takes the first step. Let’s take a closer look as John presents to us the God who was “before.”
