Shout-out to Judith Butler: Queer performativity is rooted in her work where she argued that gender is not something one is, but something one does through repeated acts. When we put that in terms of queer theorising, it is about delinking gender, sex and sexuality (Lind, 2009) by showing that these elements do not have a linear relationship to each other based on biology. So, for the purpose of this episode, we wanted to address what her work in ‘gender performativity’ means for queerness today.
