Welcome to the Know Yourself podcast! I'm Dan Udale and I've struggled with anxiety and PTSD since I was 16. I'm here telling you my story because I absolutely love and am passionate about shining a light on mental resilience, mindset, and self awareness. I feel this way because of the major impact the tools I have learnt have had on my life and I want to share it to get a conversation going that can cultivate individuals understanding who they are, what their triggers are, that it is ok to feel depressed/anxious/lonely, and that you aren't alone out there!

Know Yourself - Episode 73 - An interview with Laura Barton
It’s Monday which means another brand new sparkly podcast episode! This interview like all of the others that have come before this, is important. In this episode I chat with Laura Barton who is an author of a book series called project Dermatillomania, Laura also works in communications for Canada BFRB which is a non-profit that looks at Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours such as skin picking.
.
For as long as I can remember I have picked my skin on my fingers, sometimes until they bleed. I do not like doing it, sometimes I don’t even know that I am doing it. I think because it’s been with me for so long I’ve not given it any attention and even hidden it from myself. I didn’t have any awareness about it until seeing Liz Atkin’s TedX talk called “Re-imagining Compulsive Skin Picking: Art for Recovery”. Then Laura reached out to me.
.
Talking to Laura on the podcast was the first time I had spoken about this in public with anyone but Laura’s knowledge on the subject and her own experience with Dermatillomania gave me great comfort and made me think how useful it will be for anyone else that has been struggling with skin picking. Laura has offered me support outside of the episode and I have joined a great Facebook group around skin picking to help understand the disorder some more.
.
To hear more about Laura’s experiences and her story check out episode 73 of Know Yourself on anchor.fm/knowyourself - Apple Podcasts - Spotify - Google Play Music - and much more. Don’t forget to let me know your thoughts in the comments below and leave rating and a review on the podcast, it would mean the world to me 😊
