Hematocrit is a red blood cell test. It tells you how much of the blood volume is occupied by red blood cells. Blood has 2 main components: cells and plasma. There are 3 ways to measure hematocrit conceptually, by measuring the height of red blood cells in a centrifuged tube of blood, by multiplying red blood cell count x MCV, and by using the rule of 3's.
